Amelie Zapf started to play classical piano at age five, and discovered
jazz at 11, teaching herself improvisation by listening to classic Jazz
recordings. At 14, she picked up classical organ and jazz bass. Since age
15, she has been constantly active in professional jazz and blues bands.A church organist by trade, she deepened her knowledge of jazz music studying with pianist Klaus Ignatzek, Oldenburg, and bassist Martin Wind, New York. Her individual, blues-oriented style is inspired by Gene Harris, Herbie Hancock and Thelonious Monk. During her studies, she led and arranged for the jazz-rock big band "Four and More", playing Hammond organ. From then on, she has also been a very active composer and arranger. In 1998, she teamed up with Louey Moss. From then on, the two have been active on jazz and soul stages all over Germany. One year later, she moved to Berlin, where she had the opportunity to play, among others, with Mike Russell, Thorsten Zwingenberger, and Kat Baloun, as well as with greats like trumpet player Roy Hargrove and bassist Sirone Jones.
